Editorial – Misplaced Hatred

Jonah is oft forgotten.  But he never goes away.  From time to time, usually in crisis, he keeps coming back.  In a visual, his image may be different, but spoken and rightly heard, Jonah’s message is always  the same.

In 2018, Jonah seems here to stay for a while, at the very least until there’s been enough confirming response.

Jonah, as is well known, is not comfortable with notoriety.  He’d rather be somewhere else, doing something else, like playing golf in Mar-a-Lago.

But the global hurricane that almost blew America away on 911 awakened Jonah from his idyllic dreams.  And he has been compelled  to speak up ever since.

The unintended, intentional wars in Iraq and Afghanistan flabbergasted and frightened Jonah.  Then, he tried hard to escape the terrible social storm that become known as the Great Recession.  But his message was too applicable, he had to stick  around and continue searching  for enough signs to confirm he had done his job.

Our modern Jonah’s state is one of  constant unease, you see.  Like his biblical counterpart,  he’s not at all comfortable living in the same world with aliens and other miscreants  who speak strange languages and scat about, even when praying, doing weird things.

But Jonah has spoken his eternal words and shared them with the whole of humankind—Change Your Evil Ways or Else!

Some—No, many have heard.  Weirdly, though, Jonah 2018 remains unhappy and restless.   For deep down, he really doesn’t care what happens to “them,” those “foreigners” he’s been called upon to save.

So, Jonah constantly complains, as do each of the like-minded, collectively  exhibiting a universal despise of those who are different.  The more powerful the “different” one, the more intense the “despise.”

The whole of this modern Jonah tale exposes why hatred of “foreigners” grew so strong in America over a decade, 2006-2016; it, the “hatred,” actually elected  a Misfit the president of our country in 2016.

Thankfully, Jonah has stayed around to keep us straight.   The children our Misfit separated from their moms and dads,  many of whom do not know their “right” from their “left” hand,  we now know they are “precious in His sight.”

Which ought forever to remind us of the Whale who saved our reborn Jonah from the raging storms of modernity, making it possible for him to  continue proclaiming  his redeeming message.  The Whale’s name?

Obama.
