State 2A Track & Field; Timpson and Refugio look to Vie for State Boys’ Team Title

By Longhorn Putt

Refugio is the defending 2A state T&F champion, but based on performances to date, Timpson looks to be aiming to bring them down, mainly by winning at least two relay events in the state meet, where titles are decided.

Refugio junior Ernest "the Flash" Campbell is the defending state champion in both sprints, but in the 100-meter dash, Tahoka's Zane Garvin has the best 2A time to date: 10.71.  Campbell has the best time in the 200 meters: 21.77.

In the 4x100 relay, Refugio owns the best time at 42.72, but Timpson is close at 42.89.

Timpson owns the best 4x200 time, 1:30:07; Refugio's best is 1:32:29.

Refugio clearly has the edge in the 4x400, with an excellent early time of 3:26:16.

Fans statewide are already familiar with the superb athletic talents of Timpson junior Terry Bussey.  If it hasn't awakened Refugio yet, it should:  Bussey competes  on both the 4x100 and the 4x200 relays.
