President says China wants to negotiate over trade war

BIARRITZ, France (Reuters) - President Donald Trump said on Monday he believed China wanted to make a trade deal after contacting U.S. trade officials overnight to say it wanted to return to the negotiating table.

China’s lead negotiator in the U.S. trade talks earlier on Monday said Beijing was willing to resolve its trade dispute with the United States through ‘calm negotiations’ and resolutely opposed the escalation of the conflict.

World shares tumble as US-China trade war renews uncertainty

TOKYO (AP) — Global shares fell Monday after the latest escalation in the U.S.-China trade war renewed uncertainties about global economies, as well as questions over what President Donald Trump might say next.

France’s CAC 40 shed nearly 0.1% to 5,322.21 in early trading, while Germany’s DAX fell nearly 0.2% to 11,590.53. Markets were closed in Britain for a national holiday. U.S. shares were set to recover with Dow futures up 0.2% at 25,725. S&P 500 futures were up nearly 0.2% at 2,859.60.
