Can Centerville Stop Timpson’s Title Run?

On Black Friday, Nov. 25., the Centerville Tigers will have the golden opportunity of their 2022 season, a chance to upend the 2AD1 team that has been ranked #1 most of the year—the Timpson Bears.

Timpson remains the favorite, of course.  But under head coach, Kyle Hardee, Centerville has the tools essential for pulling off an upset.

On the other hand, Timpson head coach Kerry Therwhanger has been building a strong football program since moving from Lovelady in 2017. Last year his Bears gave the 2022 champion Shiner Comanches their toughest game, losing by just seven, 35-28, in the state semifinals.

Undefeated Timpson is having an exemplary season.  Centerville has but two losses, both early in the season:  to Crawford, 6-21, on September 6, then to Mart, 20-21, two weeks later.

Senior Paxton Hancock, with an average of 158.8 rushing yards per game, heads a powerful Tiger running attack.

Timpson’s multiple offense is directed by junior quarterback Terry Bussey, ably assisted by running back Dakovian Tutt, also a junior.

The two teams have had but one common opponent thus far in 2022--Shelbyville.  Timpson defeated the Dragons 64-14 on October 18th and Centerville eliminated the Dragons from the playoffs just two weeks ago in bidistrict., 51-13.
