Key Area Round Games in 2A Texas HS Football

By Longhorn Putt

All games are important, of course, but several contests are expected to be more competitive than others, therefore our features for the second round of the 2A 2022 playoffs for this division.  Note:  of these 10 selections, all except one will be played on Friday, November 18.  Wink meets Santo on Thursday evening in Colorado City.

Cisco (9-2) vs. Stratford (11-0), Friday, 6pm, Woodrow

Hawley (11-0) vs. Panhandle (9-2). Friday, 3pm, Lubbock

Cooper (11-0) vs. Corrigan-Camden (10-1), Friday, 7pm, Athens

Beckville (10-1) vs. Joaquin (8-2) – a repeat; Beckville defeated Joaquin 42-41 in Week 2; both lost to Timpson during the regular season.  Friday, 7pm, Nacogdoches

Flatonia (9-1) vs. Three Rivers (9-2), Friday, 7pm, Marion

Mason (9-2) vs. Shiner (9-1), Friday,7pm, Hutto

Clarendon (8-30 vs. Ralls (9-2), Friday, 7pm, Tulia

Wellington (10-1) vs. Sudan (9-2), Friday, 7pm, Amarillo

Wink (11-0) vs. Santo (10-2), Thurs. 7pm, Colorado City

Falls City (7-4) vs. Sabinal (11-0), Friday, 7pm, Jourdanton.  The Beavers have found themselves and been there before.

In his third year as Sabinal AD/HFC, Jeff Kowalski is a favorite for "Coach of the Year" in this division.  The Yellowjackets are undefeated (11-0) going into the Area round and are favored over Falls City by four (4) points.  South Texas fans know well that Kowalski has no fear:  last year he scheduled the well-experienced Refugio Bobcats in a Week 3 matchup and lost 78-0.  Clearly, he and his team have learned through experience.
