Shiner, Brock Show Their Class
Victoria, Tx, 12/02/21—The winner of the big game here on the first night of the Regional finals in 2AD1 was pretty much determined with the pre-game flip, which saw Shiner receiving the kickoff. From there the Comanches never looked back. They led the previously undefeated Refugio Bobcats 35-7 at halftime; then coasted through the second half to make the final score 55-18..
Brock was almost as impressive in its 49-14 win over district foe Whitesboro.
Shiner junior running back Dalton Brooks scored six touchdowns while rushing for 384 yards against the Bobcats.
Next week, in a state 2AD1 semifinal, Shiner will meet the winner of Friday night's (7:00 p.m.) contest between Timpson and Centerville, to be held in Jacksonville's Tomato Bowl.
In its 3A1 semifinal, Brock (14-0) will go against the victor of Friday afternoon's 2:30 p.m. matchup between Mount Vernon (13-0) and West (13-0), to be held in Frisco's Ford Center. Whichever, the state semifinal next week pitting Region 1 winner vs. Region 2 winner? It will be a battle of 2021 unbeatens.
Former Baylor Coach Art Briles is no longer the Mount Vernon head football coach, but he did build this year's team in the two seasons he was with the school.
