OMAHA - Texas A&M vs. Oklahoma opens this year's CWS here at 12:55 p.m. on Friday. For the nightcap, it'll be Texas vs. Notre Dame.
On Saturday, Arkansas faces Stanford and Ole Miss goes against Auburn.
Elimination requires two losses. And the competition continues through next week.
Most college baseball buffs make Standford a slight tournament favorite, followed by Texas A&M.
Fans may recall that A&M, Texas and Arkansas were in the old Southwest Texas Conference. The Longhorns are making their 38th appearance in the tournament; the Longhorn program has claimed 4 national championships in baseball.
Of special interest to Texosport readers will be the contributions of Ryan Targae of Hallettsville and Alex Meyers of D'Hanis, both are A&M sophomores; Chase Lumous of Godley, also a sophomore, for UT; and infielder Trenton Brown out of Victoria East a sophomore performer for Oklahoma.
