One look at Hawley Coach Mitch Ables and you wonder whether his dark locks will begin to turn gray very soon, as his Bearats go against the Shiner Comanches next Wednesday in the AT&T Stadium, Arlington, 7:00 p.m.
The Bearkats have enjoyed eight straight winning seasons with Ables at their head. His overall record is 141 wins and 21 losses, a winning percentage of 87.04%.
The matchup with Shiner is Hawley's first in a state championship.
Ables' Shiner counterpart, Daniel Boedeker, appears to have few concerns. And he has reasons to be confident. In his third season leading Comanche football, his record is 41 wins with but one loss, a winning percentage of over 97%.
Hawley will rely heavily on Austin Cumpton, especially for its offensive punch; Shiner, on the fabulous Brooks brothers, who excel on both sides of the ball. The Bearcats have zeroed out seven of their 15 opponents.
All Ables and company want is a win, of whatever size it comes.
