Will Holliday Surprise in 3AD2?

By Longhorn Putt

Gunter, Idalou, Canadian, and Newton. . .all four are among the 2022 3AD2 title favorites in Texas high school football.

But Texosport has a sentimental longing to see the Holliday Eagles pull off a huge surprise and claim the 3AD2 football crown come December.

At QB for Holliday will be Grant Cox (#4) , backed up by Peyton Thurmond.

Sean Poore

The Eagles’ solitary loss in 2021 was to state runner-up Gunter, 35-14 in the state semi-final.  Other Eagle returnees include giant-sized linemen Sean Poore, 6’4” 300 lbs., and Caleb Foster 6”1, 235lbs.

Holliday HC Frank Johnson caught the title bug when in elementary school at Iowa Park, taking in the excitement surrounding Iowa Park’s two consecutive state championships, the second, a 1970 title shared with Refugio.   Friends and Holiday fans of course hope that Johnson’s dream of coaching a state championship squad will come true in 2022.

Stay tuned.  It could happen.

And we’ll know fairly early in the season what the Eagles’ chances of going all the way really are.  They open at home against Iowa Park, then travel to Jim Ned and next host Idalou before again traveling to Childress. If they’re, say, 3-1 by week 5, look out!  The Eagles will be flying high!
