As things look now, a few days before the Week 11 games, the Franklin Lions are heavy favorites to take the 3AD1 title in December. The Lions seem to be coasting through a perfect season, as they did last year, with their closest 2022 game being a six-point win over Jasper, 41-35. (Jasper's (7-2) other loss was to Newton, 20-6.)
Mark Fannin is in just his third year of directing the Lions' football program, having moved over in 2020 as the head baseball coach to replace Mike Hedrick, who had worked in the Franklin schools for 14 years.
To say the least, Fannin has done pretty darn well over the three years he has been at the helm of the Franklin gridiron program. . His record is 37 wins with but three losses (92.5%), which, of course, includes last year’s state 3AD2 title.
Has any other Texas high school football coach ever done so well in his first three years as a head coach? TEXOSPORT does not know of any. Please tell us, if you can identify such an outstanding individual.
