For 2022, The Refugio Bobcats have perhaps their toughest football schedule in recent years.
The #3 Ranked 2AD1 team will play seven of its regular season games away, with only three at home.
The Bobcats open at Hitchcock on August 26, then travel in successive weeks to London Corpus Christi and Edna. They return home on Sept 16 to face the Bishop Badgers before opening their district schedule against Bloomington, which will be followed by games against Three Rivers and Skidmore-Tynan, all three of the latter being away contests.
The Cats will take a break on October 14, before meeting the two-time defending state 2AD1 champions, the Shiner Comanches, at home on October 10. They again travel to Kenedy the next week before ending the regular season against their final district opponent, Ganado, at home.
If predictions hold, Refugio and Shiner could again clash in the playoffs.
In its preseason rankings for the 2022 season, Texas Football grants Shiner the #1 spot, followed by Timpson at #2, then Refugio at #3.
Refugio won the 2AD1 title in 2019, inflicting on Shiner its last loss, 45-43, on Nov. 29, 2019.
For the past three seasons against Shiner, the Bobcats have had their hands full trying to take down and block monster running back, Doug Brooks (6'1", 265 lbs). So it is, they are thankful not to be facing him again. But his younger brother Dalton, equally as good but faster, returns for his senior year.
The Comanches begin the 2022 season with a 30-game win streak, hosting Hallettsville on Aug. 26.
