Almost impossible! Texas high school football fans say about winning a state championship with more than a single loss in the regular season.
But as we await the outcomes of the three Saturday finals, one team with, of course, but one head coach has done it.
With two losses in 2021 under head coach Ray Biles, who is in his 24th year at Lorena, the Leopards are the 3AD1 champions.
Wait! There's more. What makes the Leopard victory in the final yet more special is that the two teams to which they lost early in the 2021 season also won the title in their divisions: Franklin in 3AD2 and China Spring in 4AD2.
That oddity may never occur again: a state champion (Lorena) with two losses to two other state champions.
Liberty Hill (5AD2) is the only team among the six playing Saturday with two seasonal losses; neither loss was to an eventual state champion, although Austin LBJ, who inflicted one of Liberty Hill's losses, did make it into the 4AD1 final, losing Friday to Stephenville, 38-21.
